Who is Barnardos?
Barnardos' mission is to challenge and support families, communities, society and government to make Ireland the best place in the world to be a child, focusing specifically on children and young people whose well-being is under threat.
What do Barnardos do?
In 1962, Barnardos began to work with children and families in Ireland, initially in Dublin and the Border Counties. It remained part of the UK organisation until 1989, when Barnardos (Republic of Ireland), an independent Irish organisation, was born.
Since 1989, Barnardos has grown into Ireland’s leading children’s charity. They operate over 40 Barnados Centres in local communities across the country, working with vulnerable children and their families. They also run a number of national services supporting parents and professionals with an information resource network and counseling services dealing with childhood bereavement, adoption and a Guardian ad Litem service representing children's interests in court proceedings.
In addition, Barnardos is using its extensive experience of working on the ground to lead a number of public awareness and advocacy campaigns to help reach the vision of "making Ireland the best place in the world to be a child."
Why did we get involved?
We work closely with an organisation that shares our social conscience and values. We're passionate about supporting people and organisations that really make a difference by enriching the lives of others. We give more than financial support too, and are keen to roll up our sleeves to support them. That’s why we are proud to be working with Barnardos. We support them through fundraising, sponsorship, donations and activities organised by our staff.
Many companies have charitable partners these days, but we’re different. We’re not doing it because we think we ought to, but because we have a genuine empathy with Barnardos and the work that they do. They are single minded in their mission to protect vulnerable children, whilst we are focused on providing protection for organisations and people who care – such as charities, care homes and schools.
Going forward…
we have various other fundraising activities planned for 2011, including dress down days, cake sales, skydiving and many more....
staff are doing various volunteer work for Barnardos in their centres around Ireland.
We do fundraising not only for Barnardos, but for various other charities in Ireland, and will be expanding on this going forward.
